Fun Monday

Well, I decided to join Fun Monday after several months off.

And then I forgot until just now!! Sorry. This week is hosted by:
Chocolate and Other Things

For this week's Fun Monday, tell me something fun
about your mother and/or her mother. What fun, weird, laughable memories do you have of your Mom or your Grandma?

I was thinking about the topic and thought of my Great Grandmother. I was named after my Great Grandmother, And while I didn't see her too often since she lived in California and I lived just about everywhere else, I do have a story of her that sticks with me.

My Great Grandmother was Southern. Born in West Tennessee and then they went to Texas. Her life was So different than mine, it is hard to imagine. Before my Great Grandfather died, my Great Grandmother had never written a check.

Really. Women didn't do those kinds of things. She never paid for anything. When she shopped she had the bills sent to her husband.

Can you imagine?

A totally different world than today.

my dad has bought my mom flowers and sent her the bill before. some how he doesnt get that it doesnt make much sense. but i dont think he has his own credit card, either. i think they're in mom's name. can't be 100% sure, but pretty sure. mom rules the roost.

I let my hubs pay bills for a while and then took it over because he wouldnt stay on top of it. now we BOTH have excellent credit. and each have only one credit card with less than 9% (his is currently at 0% and mine just went off of that in January)--we're hoping with our years of excellent credit we can buy a house soon!

the point of that (if it wasn't clear) is that its really interesting to see how things change from generation to generation. :-)

I think I would have found it very difficult to live like your grt grandmother. I write all the cheques and deal with all the finances and that's how I like it then I know we won't get any debts.

Yes, that attitude of women needing to be taken care of has certainly ended. I don't see anything wrong with one person handling all the bills, as long as the other one knows enough that they could take over should circumstances make it a requirement.

hmmm. I kinda think that sounds good! I could just shop and cook dinner and raise the babes and be a homemaker and not ever think about money! It sure sounds better than all the midterms I am suppose to be studying for! Yep...but not today we woman think we need to bring it home and fry it up in the pan!!! Ha
Just kidding...I like now that there is a happy medium of balance and we woman know what to do if our hubs die out before us! but sometimes I think it sounds so neat then back in the pioneer days-funny that she lived in Tennessee.

I do the same thing! Just kidding! I would love to do that, though...no worries...just send it to the hubby!

I remember my mom darning socks, darning socks, and darning socks! I think my dad had the same socks forever...well not really, but it sure seemed that way!

Just had to stop by and check out your blog, thanks for stopping by mine and leaving your comment about teen dating; I'm glad that it helped you feel validated.

I just had to ad to this post that I was also named after my Great-Grandmother; we called her Granny. I have her first and middle name, and scarily enough I look IDENTICAL to her! :D Love it!
