Fun Monday

Ann at For The Long Run has today's Fun Monday:

Now, the reason you're here: the topic for Fun Monday on 14 January. I want
to hear about a web site and not just about any old web site. I want to hear
about a web site that's changed your life. A web site that you can't live
without. A web site whose inventor you'd like to see win a MacArthur Genius
Grant.Maybe you want to sing the praises of a dating web site for helping you
meet your spouse. Maybe the only thing getting you through the dark days of
winter is an Internet comic. No story is too big, no story is too small - I want
to hear it all on Monday.

I just wrote a big long post and talked about 4 different websites. But I was not really happy with it. They were all good websites, but I didn't really feel all that great about them. Then I realized my most favorite site. The coolest, life changing site on the Internet. I discovered this site about 10 months ago. It has been so great. It is the down loadable library. It is just for the state of Tennessee, but if we have one I bet that other states have them, since we are normally the last to get anything. Here is the site: http://reads.lib.overdrive.com/ If you live in the state of Tennessee just click on the link and choose your region and then your library. Then you will need your library card number. You can download 10 books at a time. They also have audio books, but I like to read, not listen. I love that I can decide at 9:00 at night that I want a book and can just get one off the Internet. It is sooo fun and convenient. I just now downloaded Great expectations since I committed to read it for the Dangerously Challenge .

I love to read but I am not big on clutter, so having books on the laptop is much easier for me. Now head on over and visit the other Fun Monday posts!

I'll make sure NLM reads your post. He's a huge reader, and loves audio books. When he had to go to Denver each week, he'd stock up on audio books from the library for his trip. I've tried to "listen" to books, I start picking out the speech impediments and it drives me nuts. So I have to read instead.

A great service and worthy of your vote Cynthia.

Very nice! Houston has a similar program, although I just found out about it on Thursday, when I applied for a library card! Great post!

That is ONE fabulous idea!! I will have to go out on 'my favorite' site....google and see if our city/county library has something for that. Wow.

Happy Fun Monday.

That sounds like a wonderful post. Sure wish MS had one. I may go look at it later and ask my step sis if I can use her address. LOL!

Cool! I AM a Tennessee blogger, so I have access to this--never heard of it before, but since I have an iPod, it's a cheap thrill to think about getting FREE audio books!

I'm going to have to look and see if our libraries do this. Somehow I doubt it! But it's an amazing idea.

I guess I need to look into this. Trad LOVES audio books and they are EXPENSIVE!!!!

I wonder if we have any of those sites in the UK. Audio books sound a really good idea, I think my mum would enjoy this, but I may loose my computer time so maybe not such a hot idea!!

that's a very clever idea but I do love holding a book in my hand when I read. Though after waiting 8 days for my amazon order! I like the idea of getting my books instantly :)

Neato! Although I don't have a laptop....but I will see if my state has this. Like it!

What a great site! I'm doing a lot of roadtrips lately by myself and audio books keep me sane. I'll see if we have such a program.

That is a good site. We have a Provincial Library site. I don't go there, but you can do interlibrary loan, so if there is a book anywhere in the province, you can get it sent to your local library for free. The local library will email when it comes in, then you pick it up and have 3 weeks to read it or you can extend that time, then take it to the local library, or a different one, and it gets sent back.

That just makes it darn easy. Now I have no excuse not to finish Stephanie Plum.

I'm glad you told us about that.

Oh wow! That's really cool.

I read several librarian's blogs (and they read mine) yet I haven't stepped foot in a library since I graduated from college approximately 16 years ago. I think I need to check out the library near my house here in Atlanta.

What a fantastic idea! I wish Arkansas had that - but then, I already spend way too much time on the computer.

However, as I'm packing for a move, I keep wondering - where did I get all these dang books?
