Fun Monday

OOH A Shiny Pen is hosting Fun Monday this week. Here is the assignment:

Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear
the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am
not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends
hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file.
However you want to post it is great.

I have thought about this all week. I am not much of a music listener. I spend a lot of time in the car with no music. I enjoy silence. But there was a time in the 80's that I listened to a lot of music. I carried a piece of paper around this week and made lists of bands on it. I couldn't really narrow it down to a song. I decided that I will ask my husband what song makes him think of me. He is my only friend. Sort of. Anyway, here is the list of bands that I came up with:

Duran Duran: Junior High, I lived and breathed John Taylor.

INXS: these guys went to my rival high school in Hong Kong. About 10 years before I was there. They went to KG5. They had apartments in HK and people would spot them on a regular basis. I think this made me like them more.

B52's: the greatest band E.V.E.R.

R.E.M.: also fom Athens, GA like the above band. In college we camped out for tickets. It was just in the student union across from my dorm.

Pet Shop Boys: Nick and Chris. They are sooo cool. I saw them in HK, in high school. 2nd row. So much fun. I have turned my 9 y/o into a PSB fan. You should hear her sing West End Girls!

Thompson Twins, Howard Jones: the list gets pretty long. So I went and asked my husband and this was his response:

If I hear any R.E.M. or B52's I instantly think of you. Or any 80's song that I din't like makes me think of you since if I didn't like it you probably did.

So there you have it. I have been visiting You Tube for an hour really enjoying watching old videos when it suddenly hit me. The one song that combines B52's and R.E.M.

Enjoy...

*******If that top one doesn't want to work, here is a "version" of the song that was done for younger viewers.***********

I'm with you on JT and Duran Duran - the number of Tiger Beat posters on my bedroom walls at the time. It's embarrassing to think about now. :)

Thanks for the memory trip.

We seem to have a lot of the same taste in 80's music. Love this song!

Well darn. It wouldn't play for me. But I listened to Duran Duran too and INXS too when I was younger.

I love the B-52s (Love Shack!) and INXS.

R.E.M. is one of those groups I can't decide whether I love or hate. I suppose it depends on my mood. I do love the Sesame Street video of "Shiny Happy People". Yes, I'm 36 and I still love Sesame Street.

I remember first hearing that song, and seeing that video when I was in the Army. Thanks for the memory.

Shiny Happy People!! I love it. And, I pretty much only listen to the 80s on 8 (XM), I loved your list!

Oh, and I told Hubby we were pregnant via B52s....

"My Tin Roof Rusted" spelled out on a cheesecake plate at Cheesecake Factory.

Here's a Shiny Happy comment for you! Thanks for posting both of them - they are fun to watch!

Since my sons are in their thirties, I recognize all of the 80's bands that you mentioned. I like the fun muppets video.

Hey, Athens pride! I too went to UGA. I used to see Michael Stipe around town, he still plays up there!

I love the drummer's unibrow!!!

Do NOT envy our "winter precipitation event". Sleet and freezing rain, broken trees and power lines down and ICK everywhere. Ice and ick and puddles and gray and gross.

all the best-

Fun choices. I haven't thought of The Muppets in ages. Thank you.

I love Shiny Happy People, and the muppet version is fabulous. I might blog it some day. t's so cute. I liked Duran Duran when I was little, and my hubby's band, B-Movie, supported them on tour one time.
Also, thanks for the linky love. I must do that next week. :D
